According to EIA.gov, utility-scale solar power averaged 63.1 GWh between 10 AM and 6 PM each day in the Lower 48 states as of August 2024, which represented a 36% increase for the same hours a year ago.
Additionally, solar generating capacity outpaced other sources of electricity in the U.S. power sector in 2023, a trend that experts predict will continue throughout this year.
In August 2024, 107.4 GW of solar generating capacity was in operation, compared with 81.9 GW in August of last year.
U.S. utility-scale developers are slated to add 24 GW of solar generating capacity between August and December of this year, making up 63%, or nearly two-thirds, of all electricity generating capacity set to come online.
California accounted for 21.0 GW, Texas had 18.8 GW, and Florida had 9.7 GW in August 2024, accounting for almost one-half of the entire utility-scale solar fleet in the country.
